The history of the Texas Rangers is very fascinating. Since the inception of the TX Rangers, seventy-nine Rangers have been killed in the line of duty. Most of these Rangers were killed during the Wild West era between 1858 and 1901. The Rangers have assisted in apprehending some of the most notorious and high profile criminals in history, like outlaw John Wesley Hardin, Bonnie and Clyde, and the infamous bank robber Sam Bass.

Texas Rangers are responsible for undertaking criminal and special investigations like organized crime, bank fraud and corruption committed by public officials. It is the Rangers duty to capture fugitives and bring them to justice. It is the job of the Rangers to help local law enforcement officers enforce the laws, if they are unable or unwilling to control criminal activities in their own jurisdiction. Under the order of a judge, Rangers become officers of the court in charge of protecting the people and maintaining order inside the courtroom. TX Rangers perform forensic investigations to aid in solving major criminal cases. They provide back-up for security details that are responsible for protecting the governor and other high profile dignitaries.

Currently, the Texas Rangers Law Enforcement Division has a total of 144 Rangers. There is a museum located in Waco, Texas that is devoted to the legacy of the these TX Rangers. This museum was created with immense pride to honor the valor and dedication of all the Texas Rangers, both in the past and the present. The life of a Texas Ranger has been portrayed on TV shows, movies and in books, but the media does not capture the true essence of a dedicated Ranger.
